New York : Movie Review

Disclaimer : This is just not an ordinary movie review or just another movie review. Matured content ahead. They are my views and you cannot sue me for them. I have taken max care not to hurt any religious or regional sentiments. Its less of a movie review and more of my take on terrorism. The comments are now enabled.

If there is something called New York to maine excite hona hai and if its a Yash Raj movie to aur bhi jyada excite hona hai maine. Us par mere naam ka ek gaana bhi hai though instrumental then to sone pe suhaga hai ji. Am talking of New York, the movie. The city, which taught me to be independent and overcome pains. Yeah I have spent good time of my stay in US in New York. That apart.

Is terrorism justified? Whats a country supposed to do if somebody runs in few hijacked planes in a key building of your financial headquarters? Sit idle? Ask somebody else to bring the suspects to justice? Or ask UN to persuade the countries of the suspects to bring them to justice ? Or arrange for a long trial at the expense of tax payer money and make mock of people who lost their lives to the heinous terrorist act ?

And if you are detained legally or illegally and subjected to torture, then do you become a terrorist? Is that justified? Is that valid argument? Terrorism in any form is heinous and disgusting crime. In fact its inhuman. Yeah yeah, the terrorism is a sin and all that. And it cannot be justified. Terrorism from any region cannot be justified. Either you are a victim or not, either you see the plight of "fellow countrymen" or "want to teach big daddies a lesson", the terrorism cannot be justified.

New York the movie talks about this. The issue of a detainee in 9/11 investigations turning to terrorism to avenge his torture is highlighted with unexpected maturity and sensuality. The US is a big daddy. Any crime on its mainland and it ensures the criminals wont go scot free. There were around 1200 detainees on name of suspects in 9/11. And they were put up in detention center in Guatnamo Bay prison, which is now all set to close with President Obama signing the order. Its being said that there were inhuman tortures with the detainees like racist abuses, inhuman behavior and peeing on the detainees. Sleeper cells then work to avenge the tortures. Terrorism to avenge the tortures.

The moment of the movie is when Irfan says to Neil Mukesh that "its a duty of a muslim to restore the dwindling trust in the muslims in this part of world ". Thats a cracker of a dialogue. There are few more. 1)" A muslim kid playing in American team whose father was a terrorist and is now hailed hero by fellow whites. this can happen only in America". 2) "Terrorism can never be justified. There are screwed times when people (Sam, John Abraham) and countries (US) take wrong decisions. Wrong decisions in wrong times. " Cracker dialogues. A South Asian officer, a muslim officer Roshan (Irfan) handling the case of cracking Sam(not me, but John Abraham)'s terror plots can happen only in US. Else where, it just cannot happen. The country (USA) stands for liberal minds, liberal souls. Something which no other country does.

Ok to go by traditional review way : lyrics were good, music was decent, there was no song explicitly played. Few songs kept playing in background alongside story going on. Good screenplay and good background music score. Very good direction.

What do we do? We joke. 11/26 trial is still going on and how. Patriotic act with its documented flaws has ensured there is no repeat of 9/11 in US. Guarding your country should be learnt from US. Contrast this with India and you would find our reaction to terror attack is a joke. 11/26 is a prima donna.

Neil Mukesh was fundoostic. And Katrina never looked good as an actress before. She has acted in this movie for first time and looked dazzling in her "de-glam looks". John Abraham was his typical self. I dont know if he has acted well or bad. He is same in all the movies :)

Terrorism can never be justified. It cannot be justified on basis of victims revenge. There are other ways to register your protest. Stand up and voice your opinion in constructive ways. Not by killing fellow human beings. Not just in India or US or Iraq but also in Pakistan or Afghanistan. Terrorism is a crime against humanhood. Its a crime against will of Allah or Bramha or Jesus or Buddha or Mahaveer, whatever you prefer to call the GOD. The bottom line of all religions is same : peaceful co-existence.
