Slumdog not worthy for Oscar

Slumdog Millionare is not quite an Oscar type movie. May be Amitabh Bachchan was right in saying that perhaps Indian poverty sells in the world and gets nominated for Oscars and the mainstream cinema like Taare Zameen Par fails to make the cut......This statement cant be trashed. Got some reality.

Alright, here is my detailed analysis on Slumdog Millionare...

Considerable population of Mumbai stays in slums and staying there is not out of compulsion, but its a profitable business for the dwellers. And now it is the same for film makers. We have had some excellent movies being nominated for Oscars, esp Taare Zameen Par. It failed to make the cut. AR Rehman has got better music in most of his movies than Slumdog, but he wasnt even noticed for that. Slumdog got him Oscar nomination and we would be happy if he gets the Oscar, but somehow the movie doesnt deserve an Oscar nomination, let alone win one.

The camerawork was shoddy. It appeared many times that the camera is being handled by some novice. And why the usage of word "Slumdog" ?

A ragpicker picked from garbage dump and forced to begging business is a reality exposed by Madhur Bhandarkar's movie too. The prostitution showed in the song "Ringa Ringa" where teen Jamal catches latika is again showed up in millions of Bollywood movies. So whats new ? Whats that sets Slumdog apart ? Nothing in my view. And to see "Karodpati" khel, why see a Anil Kapoor doing it when you saw Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan doing it elegantly and in a less cult way as in the movie.

Entire movie I sat in a kind of anticipation that something would happen for that "defining moment" and movie would turn upside down leaving me gazed for words and get in the awe. Nothing like that happened. Frieda Pinto was pretty ordinary. In the teens, Latika had burns scars on her hands, they disappeared when she grew up. Amazing, a plastic surgery done ?

Not a movie worth so much hype and going gaga on it. Very ordinary and very normal movie. Nothing out of the world and nothing appealing. Its neither a Hindi or nor English movie, its a Khichdi of both and thats where it looses. Usage of few common Hindi abuses raises another question why are they allowed in "English movies" and not in "desi movies". Censor gripped with colonial hangover too ?

Right now in hurry to rush to my home town!! Meanwhile no apologies to IdeaSmithy for the flames 2 posts back......I didnt create any war. She came in and dropped a bombshell with a "poor twang" comment. I just replied.....
